Paper extends work of W.T.Thomson, indexed in Engineering Index 1963 p 2037; motions not examined previously are studied, energy dissipation is taken into account, and inertia properties of gimbal ring are included in analysis; description of system under consideration, differential equation governing all motions of system, and discussion of equilibrium solutions of this equation is presented.
