Very rapid mixing and burning of fuel in air stream is required in combustion system of hypersonic air-breathing vehicle propulsion system which is called supersonic combustion ramjet (SCRAMJET); study of ignition delay in supersonic air-subsonic hydrogen configurations under conditions of turbulent, two-dimensional mixing, and for pressures and temperatures significant to supersonic combustion; dissociation in injector outer boundary layer produces oxygen atoms which, once introduced into mixing layer, trigger fast reactions and decrease ignition delay length; under conditions of high production of radicals at injector outer boundary layer, ignition delay lengths compare fairly well with those experimentally measured in premixed systems.
