German Federal Railway is to introduce special equipment for pick-a-back carriage of standard size heavy semi-trailers and heavy container bodies; services are to operate between 12 centers, using express freight trains moving at 100 km/hr; minimum economic distance of rail journey is considered to be 300 km, maximum distance by road at each end is 50 km; description is given of 2 platform trucks, identified as Aachen and Siegen, and of approach where additional weight and headroom are saved by not carrying trailer chassis but only bodies containing payload.
