In U S Maritime Administration program to upgrade World War II Liberty Ships now in Reserve Fleet from 10 knot to 15 knot ships, various new power plants were tried; paper evaluates free piston-gas turbine power plant, built by Gen Motors Corp, and installed in converted Liberty Ship 'William Patterson'; machinery and shipboard operation; difficulties encountered and performance results; conclusions on marine application of this type of machinery.
