Investigation into application of gas turbine to railroad traction, employing particular power plant arrangement, was initiated by National Research Council (NRC) of Canada in 1956; program included gas generator section (involving 12-stage l-p compressor, 3-stage h-p compressor, 2-stage h-p gas turbine, steam turbine, and combustor), 2-stage traction turbines, final reduction gear, and waste heat boiler; experimental results, experience gained and potential future development.
