McCulloch Corp developed new diesel outboard motor to supply more efficient and reliable work boat power for international market; development progressed from 9-hp, 2-cyl version using unit injectors to 15-hp, 3-cyl unit using distributor type injection system; with 0.46 lb/bhp-hr and output of 0.46 hp/cu in., resulting engine has performance characteristics that match many much larger engines; details of combustion chamber and fuel injection system.
