Sister ships Pelayo and Palomares were built by Grangemouth Dockyard Co for MacAndrews and Co, and will be employed on their services to Iberian peninsula and Western Mediterranean; they are open shelter deck vessels designed for carriage of general cargo; length oa 245 ft 1 in., beam molded 42 ft, depth molded to shelter deck 21 ft 9 in., draft 14 ft 1 3/4 in., dw 1400 tons, grain cargo capacity 109,364 cu ft, and bale 98,797 cu ft; 8-cyl Mirrlees National engine develops 2000 bhp at 300 rpm.
