Fifty J-3a class, 4-6-4 type locomotives, 10 of which are streamlined, built by American Locomotive Co; height to top of stack 15 ft 1 in.; width oa 125 in.; locomotives develop max ihp of 4700 at 80 mph and max drawbar hp of 3880 at 65 mph; driving wheels are of General Steel Castings Boxpok type on 25 locomotives and Scullin disk type on remaining 25; 4-wheel engine trucks are of Commonwealth equalized type with inside journal bearings.
