First large passenger ship with trunk-piston airless-injection pressure-charged machinery; launched from Harland and Wolff's East Yard at Belfast for Pacific Steam Navigation Co.; engines are of 4-cycle single-acting type; output of 22,000 s.hp. can be developed; exhausts from propelling engines are taken to two\ill\ Clarkson Silencer boilers, which may, alternatively, be oil-fired, while exhaust gases from two of auxiliary engines are also passed through similar boiler before delivery to funnel; length b.p. 550 ft.; molded beam 76 ft.; service speed 19 knots.
