American Merchant Marine, following example set by U. S. Navy in regard to turbine-electric drive, has equipped several types of ships with different forms of electric drive; operation of these ships has forced operation companies throughout world to seriously consider utilizing electric transmission for propelling ships; principal types include tugboats, ferry boats, tankers, two-boats, cargo boats, yachts, lightships and self-propelled dredges.
