American end of shipto-shore radio-telephone system and connecting equipment on board Leviathan; most suitable wavelengths for this service are short-wave range, but use of these complicates problem, since different wavelengths are required according to distance of ship from shore, time of day, season of year, etc.; in present system, shore transmitter has power rating of 15 kw. and ship transmitter of 500 watts; shore transmitting station is at Ocean Gate, N.
