Liverpool and Manchester Railway opened Sept. 15, 1830, was first railway according to author, in modern sense of word; as memorial of its centenary, author has written most interesting account of its organization, construction, early days of operation and of men who built it; historical value and beauty are enhanced by 37 plates, many in colors, and numerous illustrations; book is valuable addition to railroad history.
