Simple methods for calculating critical speeds in line shafting and in turbine shaft; hypothesis is given that shaft may be divided into sections carrying at each extremity concentrated mass; system of such masses is dynamically equivalent to given system. Translated abstract of paper before Association Technique Maritime et Ae ronautique. (See also Association Technique Maritime et Ae ronautique -- Bul no. 33, 1929 pp. 429-443, 5 figs)
