During years 1924-1928, information was collected and sifted in order to disclose specific causes for outbreaks of fire; in most of cases examined causes could be stated to be dependent upon some condition or combination of circumstances in vessel; satisfactory method for determining liability of coal to spontaneous combustion has become available; it was decided to confine classification of outbreaks of fire to definition of causes identified.
