Editorial comments based on paper by W. Scott Hill read before North East Coast Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders; it is claimed that present situation of practice in respect to choice of fuels for propelling ships is unsatisfactory and disquieting; fundamental interests not only of shipowners and coal industry, but also of whole country, would be served if overall results not inferior to those of oil could be obtained by coal-driven ships.
