Japan has led world in shipbuilding output for past 6 yr, gross tonnage launched in 1961 being about 2-million; output of steam turbines for main engines, over 1000 hp, was about 130,000 shp, and for diesel engines about 1,040,000 bhp; various studies are mentioned, and it is noted that automation of fueling maneuvering systems of engines were developed for diesel ship, while steam turbine of 28,000 shp is under construction for oil tanker of 130, 000 tons dw.
