Laboratory tests showed that system of 4% quicklime-1% magnesium sulfate, by dry soil weight, increased unconfined compressive strength of several clay soils tested from 20 to 100+ psi and bearing strength of heavy and lean clay was increased from 4 to 50+ C BR within 24 hr with no loss in strength upon soaking; field traffic tests on lanes of heavy and lean clay similarly treated showed that sufficient strength was developed within 24 hr after construction to withstand minimum requirements for emergency military road and/or airfield operations.
