Measurements of width of luminous wakes behind hypervelocity blunt bodies launched in ballistic ranges are presented; it has been possible to measure width of luminous wake from model out to about 1200 body diameters by using image converter camera, race track camera, and wake scanner; measurements are interpreted as defining viscous boundary-layer induced core of wake and are shown to agree with other shadowgraph and schlieren measurements of width of viscous core.
