Paper reviews history of subject, examines definitions of thrust recovery, especially in light of recent experimental work done at Stanford University; data obtained from tests of jet augmented flap model in National Aeronautical Establishment low speed wind tunnel are presented; analysis of data revealed drag due to lift to be not only expected function of jet thrust coefficient, but also function of jet or flap angle; possible reasons for behavior and implication of thrust recovery for STOL aircraft are considered.
