Improved surface travel and demand for passenger comfort require sophisticated aircraft in lieu of "DC-3 replacements" and obsolete trunk equipment; regional and local carriers' equipment selection is often more critical than that of larger operator due to greater amount of flexibility required and proportionately higher investment; introduction of short-range jets, if successfully produced, will meet requirements outlined for trunk and regional service carrier.
