Even as jet minima were being lowered to 200 ft and 1/2 mi, or 2600 ft runway range, requirement for still lower operating minima was recognized by Pan American World Airways for operations in Northern Europe during winter months; building block concept applied to planning of system for 1200-ft RVR (Runway Visual Range) approach having growth potential to satisfy supersonic aircraft requirements; airborne equipment improvement program and description of horizon flight director indicator HZ-6B and its instrumentation; improvement in monitoring and fault detection; SCAT (speed command-attitude target) guidance is under evaluation for incorporation in building block concept.
