To predict effects of turbulence environment on jet aircraft gust data in power spectral density (PSD) format will be necessary to predict resonance or "tuning" of aircraft, estimate fatigue life, and interpret probability of exceeding any given load; objective of High Altitude Clear Air Turbulence (HICAT) program is to provide required data in form of continuous turbulence measurements in altitude range of 50 to 70,000 ft; to obtain HICAT in-flight data, Lockheed U-2 is equipped with fixed vane gust probe; NASA VGH recorder is also installed to establish correlation with NAS A U-2 data; Mobile Data Systems Van, located at test site, provides "quick look" at raw data; data are digitized by Data Systems Branch at Edwards AFB before final computer analysis at Lock-heed California Co.
