Generation of boom caused by aircraft and relation of aircraft parameters and of atmosphere to boom intensity are explained; factors in focusing effects producing superbooms are also noted; calculations are shown for estimation of intensity of boom from aircraft in steady flight, derivation of climbing cutoff Mach number, and formation of cusp from longitudinal acceleration.
