Greater reliability in aircraft can be achieved through recording in flight of responses of various airborne systems; Trans World Airlines, Inc undertook evaluation of airborne multi-parameter recording system, using Lockheed Maintenance Recorder System; phases of program, data generation, data acquisition and retention, and data diagnosis; data is obtained by airborne instrumentation detecting changes in electrical, structure, mechanical, and engine parameters; it is recorded in analog or digital form and analyzed to determine equipment and aircraft performance; examples.
