Data, obtained during low altitude flights over Canadian Shield, north of Ottawa, are reported; flights were undertaken using single-engined jet aircraft Sabre V (F-86) from Aug 1960 to Sept 1961 and Silver Star III M (T-33) from Aug 1962 to Apr 1963; equivalent vertical gust velocities were computed and their distribution found for each flight; rms gust velocities were calculated and linear variation with mean wind speed deduced; influence of terrain was examined by calculating corresponding linear relationships from data obtained during flights.
