Method of transfer matrices is used in study of response of flexible airplanes to random vertical gusts; nonhomogeneous and homogeneous gust fields can be treated within present framework; formulation is carried out in case of slender wing with nonuniform sweep angle, which is possible configuration for large supersonic transports; since bending moment, torsional moment, and shear are treated directly as unknowns rather than indirectly obtained from differentiating deflections, method yields more accurate assessment of random stress levels.
