Under construction in West Germany are two prototypes of Do.31E tactical V/STOL transport using combination of deflected thrust and direct lift power; Do.31E features high wing, pressurized fuselage of circular section and tailplane set in mid position on highly swept fin; two Bristol Siddeley Pegasus 5 vectored thrust engines are located in underwing nacelles and four Rolls-Royce RB.162 lift jets, positioned in wing tip pods; main landing gear units are by Dowty Rotol Ltd and six illustrations show various aspects of production and testing.
