It was found that improvement could be obtained if work load of pilot were decreased by providing partial automatic control; one of demands placed on system was its ability to deal with maneuvers and atmospheric disturbances typical for terminal phase of approach near ground; results obtained including analog simulation work and flight testing; system characteristics and recommended piloting techniques were applied to automatic speed control, designed for experimental research aircraft of STOL capability.
