Convair Model 48 Charger is twin turboprop high tailed aircraft, designed by General Dynamics/Convair to provide close support to combat troops in forward area, capable of extreme STOL take-off and landing performance, and operating from rough terrain; operational employment areas include close air support missions, armed reconnaissance missions, and observation and utility missions; for these missions charger would normally operate with armament payload of 1000 to 2000 lb for 1 to 3 hr at sea level in speed range of 100 to 275 knots; how optimum operational effectiveness was achieved at minimum system cost.
