Review of development of seats from first swinging arm concept through early manually-operated seat to rocket-assisted completely automatic zero/zero ejection seat; description of test rigs used; features and operation of various types of seats developed and their components; reference is made to work done by U S Navy and seats developed; description of underwater ejection seats and tests carried out; example of escape equipment, directly connected with ejection seats, is tree escape system ensuring safe escape for aircrew members who are accidentally caught up in tree during parachute descent.
