Article is confined to describing Lockheed's activities in SST program up to Nov 1962 when Phase IIA configuration was established; at outset of this phase, attention was focused on aspect of climb and acceleration sonic boom and effort concentrated on developing wing shape for L-2000 which offered improved aerodynamic performance; description of basic configuration and general arrangement; three interior arrangements ranging from 170, 221 and 250 seatings are shown; details of aircraft structure, materials used and payload-range characteristics.
