In assessing technical factors which are important in long-range engines, fuel consumption, engine cost and spare parts costs, and weight are considered; improvements of thermal and propulsive efficiencies; considerations indicate that at present state of art very satisfactory long-range transport engine can be produced with bypass ratio of between two and three; engine would be two-shaft engine with pressure ratio of about 20, and could have cycle similar to that considered.
