Importance of fuel costs provide strong incentive to operate SST on existing jet fuels; potential fuel system problems peculiar to supersonic transport such as fuel boiling, spontaneous ignition, deposit formation, lubricity, and combustion characteristics are reviewed; severity of problems depends on particular environment provided by designer; difficulties of defining fuel properties to eliminate these problems are covered and major steps to be taken to operate SST on current jet fuels are indicated.
