Election of materials for airframe structure on SST must be established on basis of requirements which embrace efficiency in design and performance, cost-weight analysis, economical and reproducible fabrication processes, long airframe life in SST environment with extended life expectancy beyond design minimum, and minimum maintenance required during life of aircraft; static properties under short-time and long-time exposure, in relation to density of materials, are measure of structural efficiency; other properties to consider; finally, materials must be evaluated in terms of various types of structures under consideration.
