Status of efforts being made to improve safety of motor vehicle operation through training; following types of programs are described -- safety components of driver education and improvement courses, remedial training of traffic violators, programs using simulation techniques, and use of mass media such as books and films; greater research effort should be directed toward better identification of means by which accidents can be anticipated and avoided, methods of coping directly with driver habits and skills, and techniques of maintaining safe driving behavior through periodic evaluation and retraining.
