Typical timber trestle and alternative design are described; it is noted that railroads generally follow recommendations of Committee on Wood Bridges and Trestles of American Railway Engineering Assn, (AREA) in design of timber bridges; attention is then given to field tests on timbers in service and tests on full size laminated timbers and joints, including information on methods and results obtained.
