Equipment to automate control of coal-car traffic and doors in pit-top airlock is claimed to be one of first of its kind to incorporate static switching control giving great reliability by elimination of mechanical wear associated with moving parts; proximity switches with 2 1/2-in. range are used to detect car axles; heads with range of 1/2 in. will prove airlock doors open and closed and detect position of rams and stops; ultrasonic sensing devices are fitted to all airlock doors to prevent them from closing if there is obstruction beneath them.
