Efforts are being made to effect radical reduction in impacts by abandoning traditional form of tramway suspension of motor and by making motor casing integral part of truck framing, thus reducing uncushioned mass; nose and axle suspension of traction motors should be eliminated from all designs of electrically-operated locomotives and motor coaches, excepting only light tractors and switching engines confined to low speeds.
