ABELL; vessel was 518 ft. long, 63 ft. wide with displacement corresponding to 13,200 tons; actual records of acceleration differ materially in character, according as period of encounter of waves is greater or less than ship's natural pitching period, which necessitates making allowance for fore and aft movement due to pitching.
