Experimental coal fired turbine electric locomotive No 2300, " Jawn Henry", built for Norfolk and Western by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton; max rated tractive force is 175,000 lb; weight, loaded with 20 tons of coal and 22,000 gal of water, 586 tons; new features include use of steam at 600 psi and 900 F in geared turbine unit developing 4500 hp at electric generator supplying power for traction motors; fuel cost is lower than for other motive types.
