Finite size of focal spot is critical factor in radiography and fluoroscopy; modern techniques place greater emphasis on reduced focal spot size; pinhole imaging of X-ray focal spots over wide range of voltage; variations in pinhole size, density, and magnification appear minor compared to inaccuracy of direct visual measurement of blurred focal images; Klastens' method of film trace evaluation of blurred contours is applied to images of known sources and is shown to reflect more realistic value than that obtained through direct visual measurement.
