Icebreaker and arctic patrol vessel built by Marine Industries, Ltd, for Royal Canadian Navy; length oa 296 ft, breadth 63 ft 9 1/4 in., deep draft 29 ft; ship is fitted with heeling tanks to rock itself out of heavy ice pack; propelling machinery consists of six Fairbanks-Morse 10-cyl diesels, rated at 2000 hp at 810 rpm, each driving Canadian Westinghouse 1375 kw generator and supplying power to two 5000 shp Westinghouse propulsion motors.
