Early type electro-mechanical transmission system invented by P. Thomas, may again be suitable for rail cars and locomotives; system is combination of differential gearing with two electric machines; it was first fitted to 36 hp Leyland truck for military transport supplying current for searchlight; system proved too expensive for road transport, and too advanced at time of invention for rail car use.
