Details of Alexanderson radio altitude indicator and magnetic compass given in papers presented by E. F. W. Alexanderson and J. D. Tear, respectively, before National Academy of Sciences; new method of measuring height above ground of plane in flight, using high-frequency radio transmission and reception; in magnetic compass, bar of permalloy is held constantly in horizontal position by means of pendulum which hangs vertically, irrespective of angle at which airplane may be flying.
