For commercial airplanes of between 15,000 and 40,000 lb. in total weight, biplane arrangement developed mainly in Great Britain has on whole an advantage; choice between monoplane and biplane is influenced by stalling speed selected; 20 per cent of paying load of machine lost if present-day commercial biplane were transformed into monoplane; performance, stability and control, wing structure, weight, and torsional strength and rigidity of wing structures are compared.
