Research concerning problem of fuel utilization in automotive engines; important characteristics determined by exhaust-gas analysis and actual distribution of fuel charge to individual cylinders; inlet manifold should be designed to conduct charge from carburetor to cylinders most effectively; strict attention paid to chemical phases should result in engines of much superior fuel-utilization characteristics.
