Study of lightning and dangers to aircraft; lightning dangerous to balloons, but chance of airplanes being struck by lightning is very small; if metal wings of 50-ft. span were directly in line with two clouds between which discharge was ready or nearly ready to take place it is possible that discharge would be diverted to it from perhaps 100 ft. or more.
