Based on results of investigation which showed that average fiber-piece length measure is not satisfactory, a different measure termed "equilibrium mean length" is proposed, which, it is claimed, characterizes composition of cellulose with regard to length of fiber material, better than actual average piece length; it was also shown that sulphate material has less number of pieces under 0.5 mm. in length than sulphite cellulose; changes produced in quantities by mincing, bleaching, etc., of wood pulp are discussed.
