New tractor combines advantages of locomotive as means of power and of wire ropes as means of traction; eight types are made, four for use in level seams; wire rope passes over series of drums; tractor may be anchored at branch roads and gear performs function of winch, hauling empties to working face and loads to gathering place; for use as locomotive, corresponding drums are locked by control lever, which has forward, neutral and reverse position.
