First of 10,000-ton cruisers to be built on Government Navy Yard successfully launched at New York Navy Yard on Apr. 25; length o. a. 585 ft. 6 in., depth 25 ft., speed 32 1/2 knots; ship was carried on fore poppet by three steel saddle plates, or belly bands, 3/4 in. thick; two 100-ton and 150-ton jacks were installed at head of ways; launching data; vessel will be completed early in 1930.
